Fighting inflation was one of the major goals of the Office of Price Administration (OPA) during and after World War II. Last summer we blogged about the ration books and stamps used during the war. Besides rationing, the major responsibility of the Office of Price Administration was to set “ceiling prices” on food, rent, etc. I recently ran across this price list put out by the OPA’s district office in Omaha (click to enlarge).
Have fun comparing prices for some of your favorite brands of cereal, cheese and vegetables. Ten cents for Kellogg’s Corn Flakes…now that’s a deal!
