I have to admit, I’m frequently plagued by the question of what to cook for dinner.  It’s nice to know I’m not alone, and this question has probably bothered people for generations.  The Nebraska History Museum recently acquired a 1936 promotional booklet that strives to answer what it calls ”The Average Housewife’s Question- What Shall I Make for Breakfast, Luncheon, or Dinner Today?”

Milady’s Style and Recipe Book was a promotion for the Sioux Theatre in Crawford, Nebraska and the Crystal Theatre in Mitchell, Nebraska.  Check out some of the suggestions for uninspired cooks.

The booklet includes photos of popular movie stars alongside recipes.  Perhaps Fred Astaire will inspire you to cook up Chicken and Oysters a la Metropole tonight.
